Grow Fresh Greens for Campus Kitchens

The Campus Kitchen at Auburn University is raising funds to purchase two hydroponic towers to grow year-round produce for and with our Auburn Family Meals program for food insecure Auburn students. 

Navigating the university setting can be expensive, and certain costs are especially challenging for international and working students. 

Our hope is to provide additional nutritional support to our base of over 70 students who rely on Auburn Family meals to fill the gaps in their weekly nutrition, while also creating community and fostering cross-cultural exchange by allowing students to choose and spearhead what is grown. 

Unfortunately, there can be a lot of stigma in accessing food resources, and by purchasing these vertical hydroponic gardens, we hope to reduce this stigma and engage with more in-need students across campus in a meaningful way. 

Our mission is to fight both hunger and food waste by collecting all of the unserved food from on-campus dining facilities and packaging this food to make nutritionally balanced meals. We then distribute the meals for free to more than a dozen community partner non-profits and Auburn Family Meals students.

Our campaign is raising funds to purchase two vertical hydroponic gardens, supplies for their cultivation including seeds and substrate, and other expenses to ensure their year-round upkeep and production. 

Any donations received in excess of our goal will be used to purchase the supplies that we need to keep our doors open, such as the many aluminum pans, meal containers, and cleaning supplies that we use every day. Thank you for any support you can offer for our mission— fork hunger and war eagle!
