Located just outside of Andalusia, Ala., the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center is a 5,400+-acre facility devoted to the study of forestry, wildlife, and natural resources management.
Every year, the Dixon Center becomes home to students from the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment as they attend their weeks-long Summer Practicum.
Other groups, including the Alabama Forestry Commission and the U.S. Forest Service’s Wildland Firefighter Apprentice Program, utilize our one-of-a-kind living laboratory for hands-on, experiential learning programs. In 2023, a total of 9,607 user days were logged, equating to having roughly 25 users per day training at the Dixon Center.
But the tech in the Dixon Center computer lab is losing its capability to keep up with modern mapping and surveying tools used by our participants, and limits students from completing tasks.
We need your help to purchase ten new, state-of-the-art desktop computers to complement the cutting-edge field research being performed here.
This Tiger Giving Day, help bring the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center into the modern age!
