Teach Kids Cooking Skills and Nutrition with Camp CHEW

Learning healthy cooking habits starts at an early age, and Camp CHEW (Cooking Healthy Eating Well) enforces those healthy habits during a week-long summer day camp for children ages 9-13 years old. Camp CHEW provides kids with nutrition and cooking skills, and the knowledge to become more confident and independent in making healthy food choices. 

Children attend camp at the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center on Auburn's campus and experience cooking instruction by a chef and registered dietitian. Each day, the campers learn about a cooking skill and nutrition education and prepare their lunch and snack for the day. Education is provided on kitchen safety, knife skills, making dough, food labels, added sugars, and grocery shopping.

This Tiger Giving Day, help low-income families send their children to Camp CHEW, and learn how to choose and cook healthier meals and snacks by providing scholarships for 10 children to attend the week-long summer day camp along with transportation to and from Auburn University.

By investing in their education, we can combat nutrition-related chronic diseases and promote confidence and independence in the kitchen.

With your support, the funds raised will provide scholarships, expand the camp experience without increasing the camp registration fee, and provide campers’ transportation to the Auburn University Bee Lab, Fisheries Lab, Poultry Science Lab, Farmers Market, and Beef Lab. 

Additionally, the funds will help increase the number of recipes to be prepared that include fresh fruits and vegetables, which traditionally account for a larger percentage of a food budget. Any funds raised in excess of the goal will be used at the College of Human Sciences discretion to cover emerging needs.
