Make Engineering Camps Available for High School Students

Introducing students to engineering concepts, career paths and professional development opportunities prior to graduating high school is a key component to recruiting, rewarding and producing future Auburn engineers.

That’s why the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering offers a variety of summer camps — including several that are weeklong and residential — that allows students to explore different engineering majors while participating in exciting hands-on activities. These camps are led by faculty and staff members, students and engineering organizations.

On this Tiger Giving Day, the college is aiming to raise $24,000 to send at least 45 students to an engineering summer camp. Our Senior Tigers Camp is open to rising seniors at a cost of $650 per student, the Junior Tigers Camp is for rising 10th- and 11th-graders at a cost of $550 per student and the Women in Engineering Camp is for rising ninth-11th-grade female students at a cost of $400 per student. Registration fees for each camp cover lodging, meals, snacks, supplies, a T-shirt and goodie bag. Your gifts will allow 15 students to attend each of these weeklong residential camps. If we exceed our goal, we will fund additional campers or camp sections.

In addition to allowing the college to recruit and reward students, these camps also increase the likelihood a student will choose Auburn Engineering as his or her collegiate home. In 2017, 18 of the 20 students who attended the Senior Tigers Camp applied to the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, with 16 already depositing for fall 2018.
